Proving Coffee Can Thrive in Kinshasa and attracts Opportunities

For a awhile, many thought coffee couldn’t be grown there. Even so, that only regions near Lake Kivu, with their ideal climate and altitude, could support coffee farming. But Mukuna wasn’t ready to accept this idea. Instead, she launched Café La Kinoise, the first coffee grown and produced entirely in Kinshasa. Nonetheless, proving that coffee can indeed thrive in the capital.

Notwithstanding, Mukuna’s motivation came from her desire to challenge the belief that Kinshasa’s environment isn’t suited for coffee. She chose to test this theory by using what Kinshasa offers. Primarily, the unique soil of Mont Ngafula, its special climate, and altitude. The result was a locally grown coffee with a unique flavour. Specifically, celebrated for both its quality and approach to what can grow in Kinshasa.

Moreover, Cafe La Kinoise isn’t just about coffee—it also opens up new opportunities for Kinshasa’s economy and people. Mukuna’s vision is creating jobs, building a stronger local economy, and bringing pride to Kinshasa. Now, people in Kinshasa can enjoy coffee that’s not just imported but made right at home. Undeniably, this could encourage other entrepreneurs to explore farming new crops in the capital.

But Mukuna gradually stays committed to making her business work. She continues building a strong team, focusing on sustainable farming practices, and tackling each challenge as it comes. Particularly, her determination drives her to keep growing Café La Kinoise. Not neccessarily for her own success but also for Kinshasa’s future.

Above all, as CEO of La Boite and founder of Café La Kinoise, Mukuna isn’t just creating a coffee brand; but a movement. Nevertheless, her success shows that a strong vision and determination can change an entire industry. Finally, by proving coffee can grow in Kinshasa, she encourages others to rethink what’s possible. More so, making room for new ideas and growth. Tisya Mukuna is Transforming Kinshasa’s Coffee Industry is a powerful example of how hard work and hope can lead to a brighter future.
