The car industry is fiercely competitive nowadays, especially in Nigeria. Car influencers play a crucial role. This article dives into Akinwande Waris Olayinka’s, also known as Ola of Lagos. His journey in reviewing luxury properties and cars worked out.
In 2019, Okinwande Waris Olayinka left his village, Owode in Ogun State, to seek opportunities in Lagos. He embarked on this journey with just a call to his friend “Ope” for support. Little did he know what awaited him in the city.
Ope, fibbed about living in Ajah and having a place for Ola to stay. Ola arrived in Lagos, he discovered that Ope was actually a laborer living in an unfinished building. Ola reluctantly planned to sleep there but at night, the security turned him away, leaving him stranded.
Grabbing his sack bag, he hopped on a bus bound for Ajah where his friend worked and lived. While on the bus, he overheard some laborers chatting. As one of them was getting off he followed suit, and pleaded for a place to sleep. The kind-hearted stranger agreed, took him, provided a meal, and let him stay for the night.
Following morning, he returned to his friend. Ope had lost his job and temporary place to stay because of bringing Ola. They were both without a home, so they continued looking for buildings to work. They found one and pleaded with the security to let them stay since they were workers. After a week of laboring, Ola applied for a cleaning job in an office in Ikoyi.
He earned 17,500 naira every month as a cleaner. To increase his income, he cleaned homes in Lekki afterwards. He had a strong passion for “luxury,” especially cars. Whenever he spotted these vehicles passing by, it brought him great joy. He’d quickly pull out his phone, shoot videos of these cars, and post them. Unfortunately, because of his low-quality camera, his videos didn’t gain attention.
With determination, he saved 12,000 naira, which he used to buy a phone. He kept making videos, purely driven by his love for cars. He never imagined it would lead to income or fame. Until the day Tunde Ednut shared one of his videos, and it skyrocketed. The influx of followers motivated him further. He maintained a consistent routine, chasing vehicles, recording videos, and sharing online.
Tunde Ednut continued to support him, consistently sharing his content. Then one day, Tunde made a promise. If he reached 2 million followers, he’d give back 2 million to one lucky follower. A draw was held, and Ola emerged as the fortunate winner of 2 million naira. But the good fortune didn’t end there. Davido chimed in, announcing he would be sending Ola on an all-expenses-paid trip to Dubai. That’s when Ola’s life took a remarkable turn.
Despite facing ridicule for his English, he never let it discourage him. He persisted in creating and sharing videos. He explained that he attended a school in where classes were conducted in Yoruba. His initial paying job was 3,000 naira. Nowadays, he commands up to 1 million naira for Instagram advertisements. He’s established himself as the top luxury influencer in Nigeria. And he achieved it on his own terms. It all began in an unfinished building in Ikoyi.
Ola’s journey wasn’t smooth, starting from a humble background. But today, it’s a whole different story. He’s the owner of “Ola Of Lagos Autos,”. Its a luxury car dealership, and a high-end clothing line. He now possesses homes and drives two luxury Mercedes Benz cars. This is the boy who arrived in Lagos with a sack bag and a pocket full of dreams. It’s a testament to his hard work, consistency, and the grace of God. From arriving in Lagos with just a bag of dreams, he’s now at the pinnacle of luxury influence in Nigeria.
