Igniting Campus Entrepreneurship

The University of Lagos (UniLag) just witnessed a game-changing moment for student entrepreneurs. Three innovative startups have emerged victorious in the inaugural Tosin Eniolorunda Innovation Challenge, showcasing the incredible talent brewing on campus. This exciting event, part of the 4th Annual Students Entrepreneurship Program, brought together future business leaders for a day of inspiration, learning, and networking.

Meet the Trailblazers

Craft by Leemart, brainchild of Halimat Ajoke Ariyo, stole the show with its customizable fashion brand. Hot on its heels came SafeMom, a maternal healthcare startup founded by Michael Kolade Sunmoni and Saanumi Oluwaseun Joshua. Rounding out the top three was UNISHOP, a retail-as-a-service platform dreamed up by Bukunmi Ransome-Kuti and Israel Olasupo.

Why It’s a Big Deal

This challenge isn’t just about winning prizes (though that’s pretty sweet). It’s about creating a launchpad for innovation right on campus. The Management Students Association at UniLag kicked off this initiative to light a fire under budding entrepreneurs and pave the way for a future where everyone gets a shot at success.

Words from the Wise

Tosin Eniolorunda, the big boss at Moniepoint, couldn’t make it in person, but his message rang loud and clear: small businesses are the real MVPs when it comes to innovation and problem-solving. And get this – he started his own journey as a problem-solving undergrad at Obafemi Awolowo University. Talk about relatable!

The Secret Sauce

What made these startups stand out? The judges were looking for market potential, solid financial management, ambitious growth plans, and that special competitive edge. Plus, these young innovators had to nail their presentations – no pressure!

Empowering Dreams

The winners aren’t just walking away with bragging rights. They’re getting seed funding to kickstart or level up their ventures, plus mentoring from industry pros and training to sharpen their skills. It’s like a crash course in turning campus dreams into real-world success.

A Word from the Champ

Halimat Ariyo, the mastermind behind Craft by Leemart, couldn’t contain her excitement: “I’m energized to take my business to the next level and the world would know my name!” With a cool million naira in prize money, she’s definitely on her way.

Why You Should Care

This challenge isn’t just about today’s winners – it’s about every student with a big idea and the drive to make it happen. It’s proof that your campus can be the launchpad for your wildest business dreams. Moniepoint and the Tosin Eniolorunda Innovation Challenge are putting their money where their mouth is, backing young talents to become global players.

The Next Chapter

As this challenge grows, it’s set to become a beacon of hope and opportunity for student entrepreneurs across Nigeria. It’s all about inspiring the next generation of business leaders to dream big, innovate fearlessly, and turn those late-night project ideas into world-changing startups. Who knows? The next big thing might just start in a dorm room near you!
