Yangmila Zimik’s Bold Beginning

At just 21, Yangmila Zimik from Manipur faced life’s challenges head-on. As a single mom without support, she fought against societal stigma and financial hardships. Starting with odd jobs like selling vegetables and second-hand clothes, she hustled tirelessly to support her son.

Failures didn’t deter her. When bird flu ended her poultry business, Yangmila decided to explore food processing. Her determination sparked an idea that would later transform her life.

How Shirin Products Was Born

In 2016, Yangmila launched Shirin Products, her food brand inspired by childhood memories of homemade fruit candies. With just Rs 500, she bought a tin of gooseberries and sugar, creating her first batch of candy.

Selling these candies wasn’t easy. She gifted samples to friends and distributed them to shops. Her persistence paid off when she earned Rs 650, proving her idea had potential. Today, Shirin Products boasts over 40 varieties of pickles, candies, and squashes, made from locally sourced wild fruits.

Empowering Communities with Every Sale

Yangmila’s journey isn’t just personal—it’s communal. Sourcing fruits from over 100 farmers across 20 villages, her business uplifts local communities. Her team of six women crafts products that celebrate Manipur’s unique flavors, blending tradition with innovation.

Even in times of conflict, Yangmila’s determination remains steadfast. She uses social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to connect with customers and expand her reach.

National Recognition and a Lasting Legacy

Yangmila Zimik’s hard work hasn’t gone unnoticed. Her brand caught the attention of Manipur’s Chief Minister, who praised her resilience and impact. Awards like the Vijaya Lakshmi Das Entrepreneurship Award and the Assam Women Entrepreneurs Award celebrate her achievements.

Her son, Shangreiphao, sees her as the epitome of strength and perseverance. “My mother’s consistency inspires me every day,” he says.

Yangmila Zimik’s journey shows that resilience and determination can overcome any challenge. From Rs 500 to a thriving brand, her story inspires countless entrepreneurs to turn their dreams into reality.
