Okezue Bell is not your typical teenager. At just 18 years old, this Nigerian-American entrepreneur is already leaving a lasting impact on the worlds of technology and finance. From cutting-edge inventions to inclusive financial solutions, Okezue’s entrepreneurial journey is one that inspires.
Okezue Bell’s Early Entrepreneurial Spark
Unlike many entrepreneurs, Okezue didn’t begin his journey with the usual childhood activities like lemonade stands or selling goods. His passion for problem-solving emerged early on. Whether it was finding ways to keep pencils from breaking or encouraging others to recycle, Okezue’s interest in making things work better was clear from the start.
His first real business experience came in 9th grade when he entered a competition with a friend. Together, they started a graphic design business offering affordable, inclusive designs. Although they didn’t make it to the international level, the competition gave Okezue valuable insights into entrepreneurship—like how to project finances, validate ideas, and compare products. This early experience laid the foundation for his future success.
WeArm: Revolutionizing Prosthetic Technology
At 17, Okezue Bell took a giant leap forward by creating WeArm, a low-cost prosthetic arm designed to enhance the lives of amputees. By combining artificial intelligence with 3D-printed parts, WeArm allows users to control the arm using their brain muscle signals, providing a humanlike range of motion. This innovation earned Okezue the prestigious BioGENEius Grand Prize and over $80,000 in support, reinforcing his ability to use technology to change lives for the better.
Fidutam: A Decentralized Banking Solution for All
Okezue Bell’s next major project, Fidutam, is a decentralized banking platform aimed at helping underbanked and low-income communities. Inspired by the challenges his immigrant friends faced when trying to set up financial systems for their families, Okezue recognized the need for a more accessible and equitable banking solution. Fidutam’s unique decentralized model uses cryptocurrency to fund user accounts, allowing everyone, regardless of background, to access financial services. With over 10,500 users benefiting from the platform, Fidutam is already making a significant impact.
Okezue Bell’s Vision for the Future
Okezue Bell’s passion doesn’t stop at entrepreneurship. He is also deeply involved in research at Harvard Medical School and the MIT Media Lab, contributing to neuroscience advancements. His academic excellence has earned him accolades in neurology and mathematics, further solidifying his reputation as a leader in both tech and research.
His advice to aspiring entrepreneurs? “Take a chance, talk to people, be confident, and find something you’re passionate about.” Okezue’s ultimate goal is to leave a lasting legacy by addressing social issues such as racial and economic inequality, using his work to create a better, more inclusive future.
