Call for Applications: LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development 2026

0

Applications are now open for the 2026 edition of the LEAP Africa Youth Leadership Development Program (YLDP), a leadership initiative designed to help Nigerian students build leadership skills, execute community projects, and contribute to social change.

The program, which runs for five months, targets undergraduates who are interested in leadership, civic engagement, policy, and community development. Beyond training sessions, participants will also work on real projects aimed at solving problems within their communities.

At a time when more young Nigerians are becoming interested in social impact and nation-building, programs like YLDP are creating spaces where students can move beyond classroom learning and gain practical leadership experience.

What Participants Will Learn

Selected participants will go through structured online modules focused on leadership, active citizenship, and community development. The program will also include mentorship sessions with social innovators, policy experts, and experienced changemakers.

Students will participate in debates on national issues and collaborate in teams to develop community change projects. Some projects may also receive funding support for implementation.

Unlike many youth programs that focus only on training, YLDP combines learning with practical execution, giving participants the opportunity to apply what they learn in real environments.

Why the Program Matters

Youth leadership and civic engagement programs have become increasingly important in Nigeria as more students seek opportunities to build skills outside traditional academics.

YLDP stands out because it encourages students to think beyond personal success and focus on solving real societal problems.

The program also exposes participants to teamwork, public speaking, advocacy, and project management.

For student entrepreneurs and campus leaders, the experience can also help strengthen leadership confidence and improve problem-solving abilities.

Who Can Apply

The program is open to students in Nigerian tertiary institutions between the ages of 18 and 35.

Applicants are expected to show interest in leadership, activism, community development, or policy advocacy. Students who have participated in volunteering, student organisations, debating societies, or campus initiatives may also find the program beneficial.

According to the organisers, applicants should be willing to work in teams and actively participate in community projects and advocacy activities.

Application Process

Applications are currently open on a rolling basis, meaning selection may close once available slots are filled. Interested students are advised to apply early due to expected competition.

Applications can be submitted through the official LEAP website. Click here to submit your application.
