From Hojai to the World: Habib’s Big Break

Habib Mohammed Chowdhury grew up in Hojai, Assam.
At 18, he made a bold move. He left college and flew to Dubai.

His goal? To start a business in agarwood.
Agarwood may sound niche, but Habib saw potential.

In 1998, he shifted to Laos. There, he launched Lao Agar International.
That company grew into the HSMM Group of Companies.

How Habib Turned Agarwood Into Gold

Habib’s work didn’t stop at just trees and resin.
He scaled fast and expanded into six major businesses:

  • Lao Agar International
  • HSMM Fragrance Co. Ltd.
  • HSMM Mining Co. Ltd.
  • HSMM General Trading Co. Pvt. Ltd.
  • HS International Sole Co. Ltd.
  • Razaphe Agar Factory

These companies now run plantations, oil factories, perfume labs, and mining projects.
He’s planted 400,000 agarwood trees and plans to reach one million.

Habib Took Indian Business Global

Habib didn’t just build wealth, he built bridges.
In 2010, he launched INCHAM in Laos with Indian officials.

This helped boost India’s Look East Policy.
He also hosted business talks, trade visits, and cultural events.

In 2013, Laos awarded him the Cross of Labour and the Cross of Friendship.
He’s the first Indian entrepreneur to receive both.

Why Habib Still Gives Back

Habib believes in impact, not just income.
He founded the JF Foundation in India and the HSMM Foundation in Laos.

They fund education, health, and youth projects.
He also sponsors the Lao Football Federation and other local causes.

Habib’s Work Still Inspires Many

In 2016, he became the first ASEAN-India Business Council Chairman (Lao Chapter).
Today, he leads with vision and passion.

From Assam to ASEAN, he shows what bold dreams can achieve.
And he’s just getting started.
His story proves you don’t need to start big to dream global.
From small-town Assam to the heart of Southeast Asia, Habib built an empire—and inspired a generation.
So, what’s stopping you?
