Buddy Doubara Agedah is a powerhouse in the world of Afro-Latin dance. For more than two decades, he has transformed Nigeria’s dance scene. His energy, creativity, and love for the community have made him a trailblazer. His journey combines artistry, business savvy, and a passion for social change.
Buddy Doubara’s Dance Journey
Buddy’s dance story started in 2002 during his college days at Rivers State College of Arts and Sciences (now Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic). While studying accounting, he joined the Spirit of David Gospel Dance Club and excelled as a dancer, choreographer, and director.
His move to Lagos supercharged his career. Joining Spirit of David’s Lagos branch and the Society for the Performing Arts in Nigeria (SPAN), Buddy helped build Lagos’ first private dance studio. He also ran fitness dance sessions and private dance classes that became community favorites.
Buddy Doubara’s Dance & Art Alive Legacy
In 2004, Buddy founded Dance & Art Alive, an entertainment company that turned social dancing into a lifestyle. His monthly events like Salsa Alive created a safe, fun space for people to connect over dance.
By 2005, Doubara landed major sponsorships for his events from brands like Coca-Cola, Red Bull, and La Casera. These successes paved the way for the iconic La Casera Salsa Splash show, which made Buddy a dance industry leader.
Mentoring Future Dance Stars
Buddy’s passion for mentorship shined in 2007 when he took 10 dancers to perform in Ghana, sparking an annual cross-border dance exchange until 2024. As Founder of the West Africa Afro Latin Dance Festival, Buddy created a platform where young dancers could shine, learn from global stars, and gain international exposure.
Buddy Doubara the Judge and Cultural Icon
In 2009, Buddy’s expertise landed him a spot as a judge on the Maltina Family Dance All show. He also judged dance contests across Africa, inspiring countless emerging talents. His work didn’t stop at TV, Buddy mentored dancers in-person, creating a community where creativity flourished.
Championing Change Through Dance
Buddy didn’t just stop at performances. He partnered with health organizations to offer free breast cancer screenings at major festivals. His commitment to health advocacy through art has saved lives and sparked awareness.
Agedah’s legacy is one of dance, mentorship, and transformation. His work has not only shaped Nigeria’s dance industry but also created opportunities for dancers across West Africa.
