Meet Nelly Cheboi, the Kenyan powerhouse on a mission to bridge the digital divide and empower the next generation of African innovators, one refurbished computer at a time.
From Humble Beginnings to Global Influence
Cheboi’s journey began in the rural village of Mogotio. where she experienced firsthand the challenges of growing up with limited access to technology and educational resources. But this driven young woman wasn’t about to let her circumstances define her. With grit and determination, she earned a scholarship to study computer science in the tech-savvy U.S. Where she had a lightbulb moment: Why not bring these transformative digital tools back home?
And so, TechLit Africa was born. A nonprofit organization dedicated to equipping Kenyan schools with refurbished computers. Also teaching students the vital skills to thrive in the digital age. Cheboi’s sustainable, environmentally-conscious approach is turning heads and transforming lives across the continent.
Empowering the Digital Explorers of Tomorrow
In TechLit Africa’s labs, students who have never touched a computer before are suddenly immersed in the world of coding, graphic design, and web development. Under the guidance of locally trained instructors, these young digital explorers are discovering a universe of possibilities beyond the limitations of their rural communities.
“Every child deserves access to the tools that will enable them to thrive in the modern world,” Nelly Cheboi says. And she’s putting her money where her mouth is – or rather, her computers. By repurposing donated devices, TechLit Africa is making tech education affordable and accessible. Thereby empowering the next generation of Kenyan tech innovators.
A Shining Beacon of Hope
Cheboi’s tireless efforts have earned her international acclaim. From being named a CNN Hero to her work aligning with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. But for this humble visionary, the true reward lies in the sparks of inspiration she sees ignite in her students’ eyes.
As TechLit Africa continues to expand its reach, Nelly Cheboi dreams of establishing tech hubs across Africa. Thereby ensuring that no child is left behind in the digital revolution. It’s an ambitious vision, to be sure, but when you’ve got a tech titan like Nelly Cheboi at the helm, the future has never looked brighter.
