Utkarsh Luthra: From Watching Hospitals Struggle During COVID-19 to Fixing it

Some problems are too big to ignore. The chaos Utkarsh Luthra witnessed in hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic was exactly that kind of problem.
Utkarsh is a Computer Science Engineering student at Chandigarh University in India and the founder of Medoc Health. Medoc Health is an AI-powered healthcare startup that helps hospitals automate their day-to-day operations and manage patient care more efficiently. This platform was built by a student who simply refused to look away from a problem he could see clearly. Now, 98 hospitals across five states in India are using it.
What Utkarsh Saw and Why It Mattered
During the pandemic, Utkarsh watched hospitals buckle under pressure. Processes were slow, paperwork was overwhelming, and the absence of streamlined systems made an already difficult situation worse. He noticed that most of the technology available to hospitals focused on the front desk. Meanwhile, the actual work of patient care was still happening on paper in the wards.
That gap became his starting point. He wanted to build something that brought automation closer to where healthcare actually happens. He also wanted to make it affordable enough for smaller hospitals in less prominent cities to access it.
Building Medoc as a Student
Utkarsh built Medoc Health through Chandigarh University’s Technology Business Incubator, which provided mentorship, infrastructure, and access to funding. The startup has since received seed funding and secured investment from an angel investor, reaching a valuation of ₹22 crore with annual revenue of ₹1.26 crore.
None of that happened overnight. It came from hundreds of hours of field observation, working directly with hospital administrators, doctors, and healthcare workers to understand how hospitals actually function before building solutions around those realities.
His journey is a reminder that most businesses that have impact are rarely built from guesswork. People who pay close enough attention to a problem to understand it from the inside and then commit to solving it anyway build them.
