Josiah Dhev: Rethinking the Way Students Study

Procrastination, low motivation, inconsistent study habits. At least one of those sounds familiar if you’re a student. Josiah Dhev did not only recognize these problems students face, he built a solution for them.
Josiah, a year two cybersecurity student at The Federal University of Lafia, recently launched StudyCrew, an AI-powered learning platform designed to help students study smarter and stay consistent. The platform combines AI tutoring, gamification, productivity tools, study timers, streak tracking, progress analytics, and collaborative study groups, all in one place.
How Josiah Came up with the idea
The idea came from a simple but honest observation: many students are intelligent and ambitious, yet still struggle to stay on track. Josiah believed technology could change that. The goal is not to do the work for students, but to make the process of studying more engaging and rewarding.
“StudyCrew was born from the belief that every student deserves access to tools that help them reach their full potential,” Josiah said. “I wanted to create a platform that doesn’t just help students learn, but helps them stay motivated enough to keep learning.”
He didn’t do this alone. He works with a small but dedicated team including Idah Dominion, Faith Ekuase, and Honour Obue who help with different aspects of the project.
The Motivation and Challenges for Josiah
Growing up in a financially challenging environment, he developed an early passion for technology and entrepreneurship. Rather than waiting until after graduation, he began researching product design, artificial intelligence, user psychology, and educational technology while managing his own coursework.
The hours he poured into building StudyCrew ran alongside his university studies, not after them. Sometimes, he worked late into the night after sorting his academic responsibilities during the day. Such resilience. To him, he just had to build the tool he wished he had so that other students can benefit from it.
He relayed that he also faced moments of doubts. It is not shocking because building something from scratch can be overwhelming, especially when the results do not surface immediately.
However, focusing on his long-term goal helped him push through. He took the process, one step at a time.
Josiah’s Vision for StudyCrew
Since its launch in June 2026, the platform focuses on serving students across Nigeria. However, they plan to expand globally. Josiah confesses that he, as a student, also uses StudyCrew. This helps him and his team receive feedback and continually improve based on real students, and not mere assumptions.
For Josiah, StudyCrew is just the beginning and a proof that you do not need a perfect situation to start building something meaningful. It has taught him valuable skills beyond academics that he believes will help his career even after school.
