Michael Dawn: Artistic Exploration and Self-Expression
Michael Dawn, a rising talent based in Abuja, Nigeria, has carved out a distinctive space in the art world. His work features interconnected wavy lines and a dark color palette, reflecting the intricate flow of his mind. From Buer to The Midnight Sun, each creation offers a glimpse into his deeply introspective and imaginative world.
A Journey of Self-Discovery
Michael’s path to art was born out of necessity—a need to express emotions rather than suppress them. Growing up, he realized the dangers of bottling up feelings. Initially immersed in music, he transitioned to art as a therapeutic outlet. Doodling on a phone started as a stress reliever but soon evolved into a serious creative pursuit.
“For Michael Dawn, creating art is an emotional journey—an endeavor to trap and represent feelings in the best way possible,” he explains.
The Influence of Psychology and Symbolism
Michael Dawn draws inspiration from psychological theories by Carl Jung and Sigmund Freud. His art incorporates symbolism, encouraging viewers to explore the subconscious. His style, which he calls Skarlett, is defined by fluid curves and unconventional lines, mirroring the natural rhythm of his thoughts.
“He calls his style Skarlett. The curves and weird lines correspond to how his mind flows,” he says. “Theme-wise, viewers would notice it if they are tapped into the flow of nature.”
The Midnight Sun: An Artistic Persona
Among his works, The Midnight Sun holds a special place. He describes it as “an extension of himself, a persona he likes to embody—ancient and primordial.” This piece exemplifies his ability to transform personal experiences into compelling visual narratives.
Advocating for Artistic Support
As a Nigerian artist, Michael Dawn believes in the power of community and the need for greater support within the local art scene. He envisions an environment where artists uplift one another, fostering collective growth.
“Art is a personal experience, and having people around who can bring theirs to life is invaluable. Supporting one another ensures that everyone thrives,” he emphasizes.
