Somdip Dey, an embedded machine learning scientist at the University of Essex, is on a mission to stop food waste. With co-founder Suman Saha, a computer engineering student, he developed the Nosh app, a smart tool that helps people manage their food better while staying sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Somdip Dey\u2019s Journey from India to Innovation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Growing up in India, Dey never wasted food. Moving to the UK, he saw food waste everywhere. Instead of ignoring it, he used his tech <\/a>skills to create Nosh, a food management app that tracks what\u2019s in your kitchen. It suggests recipes, gives shopping tips, and analyzes habits to stop waste in its tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Nosh Works to Cut Waste<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Nosh app is powered by artificial intelligence<\/a> to track food usage. It provides users with data-driven solutions that help them make smarter choices, reducing waste at home in the easiest way possible<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nosh\u2019s Huge Impact<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Since launching, over 17,000 people across Android and iOS have downloaded Nosh. It\u2019s already saved 186,000 food items and slashed carbon emissions by 120 tonnes. Impressive, right? In 2021, Dey and Saha expanded their vision by creating Nosh Technologies, a company that develops deep-tech solutions for sustainability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u2019s Next for Somdip Dey?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Dey\u2019s team didn\u2019t stop with just an app. They rolled out SmartNoshWaste, a machine-learning algorithm designed for smart cities. This tech cuts food waste in the supply chain by 9.46%. Plus, Nosh now features Nosh Daily, giving users access to food news, and Nosh Shop, where they can buy discounted food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
