There are people who don\u2019t choose certain paths, they just meet themselves there. The path chooses them. This is the case of Okoye Chinedu. A path chose him and he decided to run with it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okoye Chinedu Moses is a 300-level Social Work student at the University of Lagos and the founder of HIM Services<\/a>, short for Home Improvement and Maintenance Co-op. The business covers house painting, electrical work, POP installation, wallpaper mounting, inverter installation, TV mounting, and much more. Beyond what he handles personally, he also works as a contractor. This involves him collecting jobs, connecting them to trusted professionals, and overseeing everything from start to finish. The rule at HIM Services is simple: never reject a job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Skill Learned Out of Necessity<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Growing up without financial privilege, Chinedu\u2019s plan after secondary school was to find a job, save money, and fund his own university education. However, when that did not work out, a relative\u2019s husband stepped in and encouraged him to learn a skill and even funded the tuition to do so. Therefore, Chinedu spent four years learning, gained admission into UNILAG with support from his church, and turned what started as a survival strategy into a structured business with real clients and real income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How Chinedu Juggles Jobs and Lectures<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Balancing a hands-on service business with university is not easy. Chinedu reads at night after returning from work, sometimes listens to online lectures while painting or wiring on a job site, and pulls back on work during exams. Limited access to professional tools and advanced training adds another layer of pressure but he handles it by saving consistently in a separate account dedicated to equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Has Kept Chinedu Going<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Two things have shaped his journey. The first is his mentor who is also his pastor. His mentor also does inverter installation and has taught him how to work with precision and professionalism<\/a>. The second is the results. With the income from HIM Services, Chinedu has paid his own school fees and funded personal projects. For someone who started with no backup plan, that means everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His advice to students is direct: discover yourself before you start anything. Copying someone else\u2019s business because it looks profitable leads to burnout. Find what aligns with who you are, get a mentor in that line of work, and find a way to add value that others in your space are not adding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Above all, Chinedu confesses that faith has been the constant thread running through all of it and keeping things together for him.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
