A strike that shut down school for eight months could have been dead time. However, it was the opening Peace did not know she needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Osas Peace is a final year law student in Unilag and a wig vendor and stylist. Her brand, Shop Uniqua<\/a>, sells, makes, and styles wigs. As she puts it, anything that has to do with wigs, she is the person to call. Her love for wigs goes back as far as she can remember, but the business itself started during an extended academic strike that lasted over eight months. Bored and eager to do something productive, a wig vendor she knew suggested she try drop shipping. She took the opportunity, started moving products under another person’s supply, and used what she earned to eventually stand on her own. Today, she imports her own wigs and bundles directly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Business Minded Person From the Start<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Peace did not stumble into entrepreneurship with the wig business, she had already been into entrepreneurship. Before wigs, she sold jewelry, chin chin, and plantain chips. Business has always been in her nature. The drive has never been about one product but has always been about building something that works and that pays. The wig business, however, is where everything clicked into place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Building a Team to Keep ShopUniqua at the Top<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Balancing school and a growing business is one of the most common challenges student entrepreneurs face, and Peace tackled it in a way most students do not think to try. She built a team. She brought on a stylist and a logistics person, which freed her from doing the bulk of the operational work herself. Now, she oversees, inspects, and ensures quality while her team handles the day-to-day. That structure has allowed her to show up for school without the business falling apart in her absence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peace and Dealing with Impostor Syndrome<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The moment Peace knew the business could work was simple: her first customer loved their wig. What stands out about her story is what she admits beyond that milestone. Even after selling to over 1,000 customers, she still experiences impostor syndrome. However, every good review, photo of a happy client, or compliment a customer receives on their wig reminds her that the business is real and that it works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That honesty is refreshing and it is something many student entrepreneurs quietly relate to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her Advice to Students<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Peace\u2019s advice is layered but clear. If you are going to start something, start it well. Do not just enter a market. Instead, aim to be the best at it. Be unique where you can, and be excellent where you cannot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also speaks directly to a trap many student entrepreneurs fall into. That is letting business success make them forget about their education. In a country like Nigeria, she insists, your degree<\/a> and your business go hand in hand. Bet on yourself, take both seriously, and trust that you can do whatever you put your mind to.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
