This one is for any young Nigerian entrepreneur who has ever been rejected by a bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday, 22nd July, 2026, the Nigerian Federal Government launched YOUTHCRED for Entrepreneurs. YouthCred is a new loan programme <\/a>designed to give young business owners between the ages of 18 and 35 access to affordable funding.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What YouthCred is About<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The programme targets 500,000 entrepreneurs nationwide and is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation, CREDICORP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through the programme, eligible entrepreneurs can access loans ranging from \u20a6200,000 to \u20a62 million through regulated financial institutions. Unlike traditional bank loans, YOUTHCRED does not require collateral, incorporation documents, or audited accounts. Instead. Rather, it focuses on cash flow, repayment capacity, and responsible credit behaviour. This means more young business owners actually stand a chance of qualifying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Vision of the Programme<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Minister of Finance, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, unveiled the programme at the Federal Ministry of Finance Auditorium in Abuja. He noted that over 90 percent of Nigeria\u2019s small businesses are micro-enterprises run by individuals \u2014 tailors, mechanics, caterers, fashion designers, content creators, and young farmers \u2014 many of whom have long been shut out of formal lending systems. YOUTHCRED is designed to change that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, one thing is very clear: this is not a grant. The loans must be repaid. Oyedele emphasized that prompt repayment is what will keep the programme running and allow more entrepreneurs to benefit from it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CREDICORP\u2019s Managing Director, Uzoma Nwagba, added that the corporation has already facilitated over \u20a647 billion in consumer credit for more than 301,000 Nigerians in the past two years, recording zero non-performing loans. He also revealed plans to expand the number of beneficiaries from 500,000 to one million before the end of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What This means for Student entrepreneurs <\/h1>\n\n\n\n

YOUTHCRED for Entrepreneurs is the third phase of the YOUTHCRED programme, following earlier versions targeted at NYSC members and employed youths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A key challenge many student entrepreneurs fac<\/a>e is the lack of funding. Therefore, this programme is worth looking into if you are between 18 and 35, running a business, and looking for funding to grow, <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
