In Nigeria, the conversation around education and employment is no longer comfortable. Jobs are scarce, so many graduates enter the labour market<\/a> only to find out that there is no market waiting for them. This reality often leads to a logical conclusion for many student entrepreneurs: why pour energy into a degree or course you may never use professionally?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a fair question but it is also the wrong one. The real question is not whether your course of study will land you a job. It is what your course of study is quietly teaching you that you will use outside a job, what your business actually needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Every academic discipline carries a set of skills, frameworks, and ways of thinking that translate directly into business advantage<\/a>. However, you only see this if you are paying attention. A linguistics student is learning how language works, how meaning is constructed, and how people communicate. That is not just academic. That is customer communication, brand messaging, and negotiation. A media student learning production, storytelling, and audience engagement is essentially studying marketing. An engineering student trained to solve problems systematically and build things that scale is learning exactly what it takes to build a business that does not collapse under its own weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Makes The Difference?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The knowledge is there. Therefore, the question is whether you are extracting it. This matters because in a competitive market, what separates similar businesses is rarely the product alone. It is the thinking behind the product. This includes the way it is communicated, designed, positioned, and grown. Your course of study is where that thinking gets built if you take it seriously.

Consequently, do not treat your academics like an afterthought just because a nine-to-five may not be your destination. Show up, pay attention, and ask a different question in every lecture room: how does this make my business better?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
